June 27, 2011 Ceremony

My trip to London is over, and they’ve brought me back across the Atlantic kickin’ & screamin’. So since I am spending my Monday dreaming of Topshop & tea,  I thought I’d share a taste of the UK.

Back in 2007-2008 I recorded a cover of New Order’s “Ceremony” to maybe put on the record.  Recorded with John Mark Painter at the Int’l House of Fleming, this track features my old friend and longtime guitar player Chase Sampson and the most British Nashvillian I know Lindsay Jamieson on drums. Hope you like it! Cheers!

June 20, 2011 Anniversary

It’s our anniversary! 2 years and counting! Much love to my husband and the wonderful community who support us… Here are a few of my favorite shots from our wedding.

The reception was held in my backyard on the bayou in Gulfport, MS.

Our friends stole the show with their dance moves. I think that was a train?

This was when our DJ played “Closing Time” as our last song. Nope, we didn’t request it.

Marriage is #1!

Here’s to another year! We’re dining at Hix tonight to celebrate.

June 11, 2011 Packing List: Heading to London

I’m going to try a little extracurricular blogging, sharing some of my other interests and having some fun. I thought I would kick things off with a vacation! Later this week, my husband and I are going to London to celebrate our wedding anniversary and relax in the city. I LOVE London… I spent a summer there in college and I’m really looking forward to revisiting my old haunts.

Half the fun of going on vacation is the preparation–thinking about what you’ll do, where you’ll stay, and for me, what I’ll wear. I’ve been reading up on some “smart packing” strategies that really helped me pare down my packing list and leave plenty of room in my suitcase for Topshop & Brick Lane! So I thought it’d be fun to share my list! I laid everything out on the bed, and here’s what made the final cut!

I wanted to make sure I packed plenty of layers in a somewhat limited color scheme, and I included elements for different events (& weather forecasts): our anniversary dinner, long days of sightseeing, lazy days in the park, late night drinks, a night at the theatre, and gave myself enough options to create different looks with these key pieces.

Going clockwise, Look 1: Military jacket, chambray shirt (Jcrew Factory), Ombre scarf (Gap), Skirt (CItizens of Humanity via Anthro), Wooden bangle (H&M)

Look 2: Dress (Graham & Spencer, old UAL find), Sweater (Target), Scarf (Vintage)

Look 3: Dress (Madewell), Cardigan (Splendid), Belt (H&M)

Basics: 2 Long Sleeve T-Shirts (white & black); 2 pairs of skinnies (blue JBrands, black Joe’s); my vintage gold tassel necklace & favorite blue embroidered headband

Shoes (going clockwise): Clarks Desert Boots,Clarks Leather Wedges (similar style), Nine West flats, Jack Purcells

When I’m in London, I’ll snap a photo of what I end up wearing and report back on my packing strategy!
